When we think of big Hollywood productions, sprawling Los Angeles studios or London’s iconic Pinewood Studios often come to mind. But in recent years, Australia—particularly Queensland—has become a hotspot for major international productions. Legendary Entertainment, the powerhouse behind blockbusters like Godzilla vs. Kong and Kong: Skull Island, has firmly planted its roots in the Sunshine State with their Monsterverse franchise.

According to Queensland’s recent announcement:"Queensland has become home of the ‘Monsterverse’ with production commencing on the second season of Legendary Entertainment’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Secured through their Production Attraction Strategy, the series follows a recent slate of Legendary's feature films made here, including Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Kong: Skull Island. The series will generate more than $115 million for the Queensland economy, making it the largest-ever series to be filmed in the Sunshine State."
For Yank Tank, this was big news. While Monarch: Legacy of Monsters isn’t a military production, the series does feature a strong military presence woven into its storytelling. When Brandon, a production coordinator at Legendary, reached out to me, it started off as a casual conversation. He wanted to know what Humvees I had available and whether we’d be a good fit to collaborate.
At the time, I was already juggling another exciting job with NCIS: Sydney. But as Brandon explained his vision for Monarch and how Humvees could add exciting production value to multiple episodes, I knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Not only was Brandon a top bloke, but he also shared my enthusiasm for the legendary Humvee. This was going to be a defining project for Yank Tank.
A close call and a pretty spectacular stunt
After a few back-and-forth conversations, Brandon finally got back to me with dates and was ready to book the slantback for filming. There was just one problem, he was a week too late. The slantback was already locked in for NCIS: Sydney and heading off to Darwin within the month. It was a close call, but fortunately, Yank Tank offers more than just one Humvee. Brandon found another Humvee in my fleet that fit the scene perfectly, adding just the right touch of authenticity and keeping things moving smoothly on set.

I didn’t get too many details (everything was very hush-hush), but I did learn that my Humvee would feature in Monarch’s very first episode. The scene sounded incredible, a helicopter stunt threading through a narrow pass, landing perfectly in front of the actors, with my Humvee right there to set the stage. For a moment, there was talk of me being on set to watch it all come together, but the legal team ultimately denied my attendance, understandably so. Helicopters, narrow passes, and high-stakes stunts? Probably best left to the pros.

Update: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 premiered on Apple TV+ on February 27, 2026. The new season features a weekly release schedule with new episodes dropping every Friday, culminating in a season finale on May 1, 2026. This instalment focuses on Skull Island and features King Kong.
"Being part of this production was a great honour and I'm proud of everyone at Yank Tank who assisted in maintaining and creating great Humvees for the Monarch set."
